your car sounds like its either a. low on trany fluid which would not be uncomman in a car this old due to leaks. or b. the trany is no longer any good. c. would be the linkage may be stuck from rust. So i would crawl under the car and check the linkage and check for signs of oil leaks from the axel ports out of the trany. take your vehicle to a vw specialist shop to have hte fluid level checked.
Tas70 I have checked the fluid level and it was good the linkage is moving I was wondering if it could lock itself out if it was too dirty thanks tas70
well when was the last time the fluid as changed ? and ussaly if the fluid level is ok it would not cause a lockup. How many km are on the car ? and im guessing this is a automatic. But yea sounds like your trany died to me.
