2000 Jetta Vr6 check engine light

Asked by adague621 Nov 15, 2014 at 04:17 PM about the 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS VR6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 Vr6 and the for a few weeks now, the check engine light has been going
on and off for like 2-3 day intervals. I brought it over to AutoZone and they read the
code and it came up as a Cylinder 5 Misfire with the probable causes being:
1.) Ignition system failure
2.) Fuel Injector fault
3.) Engine Mechanical condition
A side note: I noticed the car shakes while idling/while stopped.
Has anyone else had this same problem? What is the solution?

pull the spark plug on cylinder 5 and see what it looks like. when was the last time the car was tuned up? you may want to have a pro look at it.

Its either your mass airflow sensor or spark plugs. Usually a misfire is related to a fouled plug or fuel issue. So leads me to my first question. How long ago did you last service your spark plugs in your vehicle? If you have not done so recently change them with the best bosch spark plugs you can get. I have tried much and many different plugs but the most high end bosch plugs are the best and don't foul out as easy. This leads to my second question. What gas have you been putting in your vehicle octane wise? anything bellow supreme will foul out your spark plugs in less then a week even if they are brand new.
