Flashing red brake light on 2000 vw jetta vr6

Asked by Kilakila1 Feb 06, 2020 at 01:25 AM about the 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The red 'brake' light started
flashing with a warning signal
suddenly on my 2000 vw jetta 2.8l
vr6 v6 glx. The brakes and
calipers were replaced approx.
one year ago. The parking brake
needs to be tensioned but the
'parking brake' light comes on if it
is engaged at all. Could the lack
of tension on the parking brake
be causing the problem? Or could
it be something more sinister? I
haven't been driving the car since
the warning light came on. It did
go off, but came on twice and
stayed on for approx. 5+ minutes.
The fluids are fine and there are
no perceived leaks.  Please
advised.  Thank you.
