replaced Fuek pump on 2.0 2001 jetta, pulled it in drive way and now it wont crank

battery seems fine, all interior accessories are working fine, windows locks radio , sun roof, all seem fine, id did sit for some time with battery disconnected, put new pump in , moved into drive way to repair bumper cover, tried to start it and now I get a strange high pitched sound from engine compartment , no crank at all, very frustrated , any ideas?
