cant get belt back on -02 vw jetta-could it be my tention puller because i dont know how to get it to go in for more slack-should i take it off,run the belt,then put it back on?

do i need to take tension roller for timing belt off,to get belt back on?

see those holes on the thing? are you not able to loosen the bolt slip a needlenose in them and rotate the assembly? rotate it as far as it will go then put a one-penny nail into the hole that appears there, spring-loading it, as it were~
