how do i adjust the timing on my 2000 beetle?

just had head done, now it seems like the timing is off, will start but surges a few times then shuts off.

You cant adjust the timing its either in time or its not. It would have to be takin back apart and put in time correctly if in fact it is out of time.

easy to miss by one tooth on one of the gears ,if no hand turn to check alignment before button up,
