2000 vw beetle will start the alarm whenever I start the car and the trunk won't open

So I've read how to fix the alarm is to start the car with the trunk open.  The problem is when I bought my car the key never worked in the trunk and since a couple months ago the switch to the trunk has stopped working.  So is there any other way for me to silence this alarm or open the trunk?

Try filling the key hole full of wd40 penetrating oil and put the key in and work it back and forth to see if it opens.
