check engine light came on no codes can a aftermarket radio cause this and way

no i have a aftermarket stereo in my own audi it does not cause the engine light to come on. If the engine light is on it has to do with your engine.

I have the same problem I have a 99beetle check engine light is on but no code any ideas .....

if your using a regular obd it does not register more then half the codes a vw generates. You need a Ross Tech scanner software and dongal to gain access to those codes. You have 1 of two options Find a vw specialist shop or buy the proper dongal and software from amazon. some vw specialist shops will scan your car as a curtsy and let you know whats going down.
