2003 Passat, won't start, no sounds, but battery good

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
2003 VW Passat 1.8 Turbo 4 cylinder, has 285K miles, runs (use to) GREAT.
Was driving home (in the snow) and had to brake quickly for a deer. The
engine just died. Will not turn over, when I try to start there is NO sounds at
all, battery appears fine, all lights work. Checked with an analyzer and no
errors found. Removed the battery cables for a minute or two, also while
disconnected, shorted them together for 30 seconds. Still nothing. ??????
Any idea's??

there may have been a fuel pump cut off switch that got tripped when you stopped suddenly , but now that you removed the batt terminals and shorted them out there's no telling what has happened , a memory saver may be needed when you do that anyways so you might be going to the dealer to re set things ,why did you put those cables together ? / ? it's not a dell

I just shorted the battery leads with each other (disconnected from the battery). I read that this would clean information stored in a capacitor... I didn't think that would cause any problems (famous last words). Just seems so odd that just braking would kill my engine and totally keep it from even turning over. It all happened so suddenly. Prior to that, it was running just fine.

Also did try to jump it just after it died. Same results. Nothing.....at all.....

Could this problem be related to the "Comfort Module"? Would there be other symptoms to confirm this?

To all, could this be the "Starter"?? Even if there is NO sound when trying to start, could it still possibly be the starter? Thanks....

if power is getting to the starter and the motor is not seized then I would suspect the starter , if not there may be a starter relay
