45,000 miles? REALLY? Wow, if that's true, I would get rid of this car so fast, it would make the character , Regan, from the Exorcist's head spin around a couple more times. I think, you either have a LEMON or these cars are junk! First of all, the timing chain is supposed to last the life of the car? Or so I've heard. Timing chains do make more noise than timing belts, and generally they are much more expensive and harder to replace, hence, the extra cost. On the other hand, most people never have to replace my chain in their cars. The fact that you have to address this at 45,000 miles is OUTRAGEOUS! Are you sure your mechanic is honest? I would highly doubt this and get a second opinion.
Thanks Mark for your reply, the mileage on my car is genuine i am the first owner and i have full agency service history until this date. The mechanic was confidant that it is timing chain noise and was surprised as you are.he said the problem is the agency change oil every year or 10K which may cause the problem, i have read many complaints on VW timing chain mainly for 2004-6 models.
Mousa123-. Well, I'm truly sorry to hear that. I had two VWs in my life. My first brand new car was a 1970 VW Beetle, and it went through a number of repairs including new engine and transmission all in 85,000 miles. Finally got fed up and sold the car. Had a few cars in between my first and second VW. Next, I had a 1978 VW Rabbit and drove it for almost 200,000 miles, but, it needed a lot of work, engine, clutch and many other things. I'm done with VW and the latest scandal does NOT give me a lot of confidence in their company. You'll have to decide what to do in your situation, but, my experience with Asian cars has been MUCH BETTER. Good luck.
What did they quote to replace the timing chain?
