It could be a simple fuild and filter change or the shift solenoid. I would suggest taking the car to transmission shop...

If it dark that's ok, but if its drank and it smells then that's not good...

Depending on the mileage it could be the torque converter the only weak link in that transmission. The input shaft from the transmission is harden steel, while the teeth on the torque converter is aluminum. The harden steel causes abnormal wear on the softer aluminum on the torque converter. The newer replacement torque converters now have harden steel teeth. This usually occurs around 150,000 miles.
