rear differential ruined, cane I just convert to fwd for the interium, until I have more money to replace correctly??

Asked by crookster Aug 04, 2011 at 01:13 PM about the 2000 Volvo V70 XC

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Attempted to have car fixed at AAMCO with long delays, and limited funding.
Originally quoted new part for around 4k.  Way out of my budget and credit limit.
AAMCO assured me they could find a salvaged part for a whole lot less -Jokes on
me 3 weeks later!!!  I am being told now, that the replacement isn't right and if I
want me car now-which I do, They can just make it a fwd vehicle.  Is that a real
option as a short term cure until I get more money to replace at volvo????

Still Crookster, from what AAMCO told me it was the rear differential, however the new mechanic calls it the transfer case. Hopefully this new shop has more of a clue then I obviously do. DON'T TAKE YOUR FINE AUTOMOBILE TO AAMCO. I certainly will no!

I pulled the drive shaft and the rear axle shafts. Poof! Front wheel drive. No issues so far..
