Any opinion about whether to buy an '04 XC v70 2.5T? Is it a lemon year/model? thank you!

Question type: Shopping & Pricing
We are considering buying an '04 XC V70 2.5T and have found mixed reviews, some not
good at all. Can you provide any opinion one way or the other? Is this a good year/model
for Volvo?
Thank you!

Cars are just like people...sometimes you have a good/great year and sometimes a mediocre/bad year. Even the Hondas & Toyotas have had model years that flat out sucked. However, looking at Consumer Reports, it looks like the 2004 model year for the Volvo XC70 was actually a good one (2003 and 2005 were worse). It got good reviews on reliability across the board, but the car itself isn't a lemon. Reliability & Longevity (as well as excellent build quality) are some of Volvo's strong points....Take it from a former '06 Volvo S40 Owner (parents drive her now and love the car!)
Thanks for your thoughts, Racer X. I ran across some blog reports that categorically panned the '04, though I know statistically such independent blog posts are probably meaningless. It helps to get outside perspective such as yours!
Glad I could help! I would strongly suggest having a reputable mechanic give the XC70 a thorough look-see! One thing I would definitely focus on is the condition of the turbo...does it need replacing?, if it hasn't recently been, it just might need a new one! Also, the cabin air filter....replacing mine was an enormous pain in the @ss, because unlike the engine air filter, the cabin air filter required removal of the brake & accelerator pedal...Unbelievable but true, considering MOST cars have this filter accessible from the glove box! The XC70 may be designed differently though....
I'll definitely get a mechanic to look it over... Do you have an '04 XC70?
Hi schumachs....No, I don't own an XC70 (The Volvo S40 is the only Volvo I've ever owned...The S60 is really nice, wouldn't mind a used one of those!). But with my experience with the S40, I feel confident giving at least some advice on the XC70. They are built in a similar fashion and can vouch for the quality that goes into making them. (If you look at my Garage, you'll see what I currently drive).
I was only curious. The S series looks fantastic. Thanks for your feedback!
