I just had the same problem with my h3 Hummer. Was told need transmission rebuild. It turned out to be the shift solenoids. Replacing them was super easy just watched YouTube videos. Bought solenoids on eBay $27 replace fluid and filter. Total cost of repair under $100. Shifts perfect now no problems at all.
