Water pump frozen but heater working fine and not runninghot?

Asked by Desertskye Nov 12, 2014 at 07:51 PM about the 2006 Jeep Commander Limited 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Last year(July 2013) before moving to Williston ND I had all the fluids etc changed and anti-freeze rated for these extreme temps up here put in
Last winter we had temps of -55 I had no problems with my jeep starting (2006 Jeep Commander v8) I just had it in today to have anti freeze changed out - the water pump is frozen I was told...however I used it today to run a couple of short errands and if it was frozen how has it been blowing heat it had to have frozen last week when these single digit temps started and Ive been using it and it has seemed fine?
Heats been working hasn't been running hot....

I should add I did a lot of driving last year for work...when we moved up here my car only had 38,000 miles on it...I put 40,000 on in a year- it now has 78,000 miles on it that's why I was having it changed needless to say I also changed jobs and now work from home

Im a 46 yr old mom and nope don't know what Im looking at :) and when I called them back they said radiator not water pump...my bad on that one he said he told me he knew it wasn't the pump but he suspects the radiator is because the coolant wont go in.....We live in Williston honest mechanics are a rarity but this guy is my neighbor and trying to help me( he runs a tow shop and has several cars he does mud racing with and does all the mechanic work on them)

* Williston ND where rent is higher than New York and for every 10 people maybe 2 are women :)
