What makes you think the new battery is being drained? Are the battery cables connected to the right terminals?

Yes they are connected to the correct terminals, and after I tried to start the car I put a voltmeter on the battery and it is only reading 6 volts

Yes it could, But your not getting anywhere with 6 volts in the battery. A fully charged battery voltage is 12.7 DCV.

Did the battery even have a charge in it when you bought it? Sometimes a parts store would have to charge up a battery off of the shelf.

You must have ben trying to start it for quit a bit or something is on in the car to drain the battery down to 6 volts, It may be that the starter needs to come out and be load tested. May be a bad starter.
