Depends on the package the car has in it, The trailer tow package has one electric fan and and a belt driven one. The standard setup uses duel fans. Look under the hood to see what you have. it is possible that your fans may not be turning on when the engine gets hot. It could be the fan or the fan relay that could be causing the problem (if the fans are not going on) But I would check the thermostat and see if you have coolant in the system. You could have a leak and your coolant is low.

Last year, I took mine in to have a major tune up and also had them install a new water pump (since it had to be removed to replace the cap & rotor). When they attempted to refill the cooling system, they had trouble. Turned out the radiator was partially clogged. They found that parts of the radiator were cool, indicating that part of the radiator was clogged. Ended up replacing the radiator and heater core. You are dealing with a 22 year old system. If the fans are running, you probably have a partially clogged system.
