lights left on battery went dead. aaa jumped start. since then parking brake fault light on.

To recalibrate it disconnect your battery and leave for 10 Min's. then reconnect and with the ignition on apply the foot brake and whilst keeping applied switch the parking brake on. then release the foot brake turn ignition off - on and the handbrake fault message should be gone and the parking brake should release as you drive off. http://www.fixya.com/cars/t2952870-s_type_jaguar_parking_brake_warning

When the PARK BRAKE FAULT light comes on the module has detected a problem and stores a trouble code. This code will need to be read with a Jag scan tool. Your problem may be due to low battery voltage, faulty park brake motor, module or possibly broken or binding parking brake cables. What you can do is reset the system. DIsconnect the negative battery cable for 10 minutes. Then reconnect it and start the engine. It will say "Apply park brake" on the messgae center. Pump the brakes then while holding your foot on the brake pedal pull up on the park brake switch handle. This should reset the brake and may rectify the problem. Mine is a 2005 S Type sports automatic. I've had the warning message, and the parkbrake stuck on, five times, due to a low battery in cold weather. The first time, a Jaguar agent reset it by fiddling about in the boot for less than a minute. The next four times, (including today) I fixed it myself as follows. Turn off the lights etc. Run the engine for five minutes to charge the battery a little. Switch off the ignition until every warning light goes out. Turn on the ignition again. The parkbrake then works normally, and the warning has gone.

Worked for me. Wife's 2006 S Type had "park brake fault" indicator light "on" in parking lot and car would not move. Had her run car for 10 minutes then shut off. Turned back on, problem fixed. Suspect weak and failing battery. Will replace. Thanks much for sharing this tip.

Just to give people some idea of the economics. When my cold weather method did not work, I replaced the battery, to no avail. I took it to a dealer for diagnosis. Diagnosis cost £95 (but they gave me a free car valet). They said it was the module, and wanted £500 to do it. My own garage got the module for £200, but and his diagnostics would not allow him "into" the module. I had to go back to the dealer to have it reconfigured. Cost another £140. One point to note is that the new module has the same serial number as the original, except for the last letter. Maybe a second hand module off ebay and some fiddling would have done it, but I was pushed for time.

Worked for me here in chicago got extremely cold and started up my jaguar 2005 s type and parking brake default was on screen and this worked just fine thanks by tjr way -13 temp

Trick seems to be to try again later - not much good if in a hurry! Happened to my S-Type about three times in 10 years - always in cold weather. Always OK after waiting a while... Battery cannot be the problem - the engine has already started before you try to pull away (!) by which time the alternator is putting more than 14 volts across the terminals. More than enough to provide the puny current needed to release the brakes. That battery you are blaming has just provided well in excess of a hundred amps to start the engine.

(Some aspect of) the battery IS the problem. You get a warning beep before the car fires up, then the parkbrake notification while the car is running. Charging it, and maybe thereby heating it or something, for 5 minutes DID work five times for me in practice, so who cares about theory? If you are in a hurry, waiting until later seems a strange choice, but as you wish.

Mt problem is the engine refuses to start ,turn the ugnition on and the glow plug light does not come on and I get a warning Parking Brake fault .The battery is fully charged showing 13.1 volts Tried disconnecting the battery for 15 mins still refuses to start the engine

An old, or faulty battery can show the right voltage (under no load), but still not be able to supply adequate current, which could cause both your car's symptoms. Cheapest way to start is to borrow a known "good" battery, rather than relying entirely upon a voltmeter. It's unlikely, but some sort of electrical/ignition problem might also trigger the parkbrake warning. However I can't believe it could happen the other way around, (whereby a parkbrake can cause ignition failure). My engine always started regardless of parkbrake issues.

Remove negative terminal first always. Yup, intermittant park brake fault can be irritating. Whenever I have to do a quick stop, like at the has station, I would prevent the park brake from engaging by pressing the park brake button down, keeping in down intil you have turned off the ignition, then only release the button. Mark sure the carnis already in Park though!

It work well for me... What I did... Turned the car off. Disconnected the battery... Waited for 10 minutes. Reconnected the battery. Turned car on. Placed foot on break pedal. And reinstated break. Or just push the break button. And the problem went away immediately!! Yea!

Seems to be a common fault on S type and apparently 05 was the worst year of manufacture for the amount of faults parkbrake issues being one I bought my car second hand and have had the intermitent parkbrake problem for more than a year ..... Switching ignition off removing keys and waiting for all dash lights to go off before re starting usually solved the problem but the parkbrake is now stuck in the on position and my mechanic says it will have to be reset using the maintenance function on a portable code reader or analyzer The problem is therefor due to module and or sensors but this can be triggered by a failing battery

Iv had the same problem on my 2006 s type seems a very common problem, it happened about 5 times now usually in cold weather, even tho my car will start first flick of the key suggesting the battrey is fine my car started beeping in drive or reverse, if you go in the boot pull the carpet back over the rear wheel arch you will find the park break module, there will be two conector plugs, disconnect the plugs if your boot has the slightest bit of mosture these modules will fail causing a break fault message on the dashboard,with the plugs disconnected use a hairdryer for about 5 mins on the modular and leads then plug back together, get back in the car a message will say apply foot break and handbrake switch, push down hard/ pump foot break whilst holding up handbrake switch, you have just recalibrated your handbrake, you should be able to drive without any problems, 3 months have passed touch wood im still problem free

I get park brake fault message and warning lights, usually when I first start car . If I turn car off and remove key. wait for all lights to go out then restart car it usually goes away but can come up randomly whilst driving along. Park brake works perfectly. I suspect module and have tried disconnecting and reconnecting it but fault still comes back.

It's going to be the module, Check connections to it are firm, as it's very unusual for anything to happen while driving. The cheaper way is to get a module off ebay. I had to have a brand new module recalibrated by a main dealer. Maybe I was just unlucky, and a used one would have worked. Well worth trying, as a very cheap way out. NB It doesn't have to have exactly the same serial number, My new one was just a number similar to the original.

on an 06 jag when you switch on ignition and the fault message appears the dispaly cycles between that and an instruction to 'apply hand and footbrake' as previous remedys. display tells you what to do! when this is done calibration procedure starts and fault will rectify if poss and message dissappear. no need to disconnect battery as fault message will reset itself after calibration if poss and there is no other fault. the negative battery terminal is of poor design and breaks easily so avoid removing it.

Hi, Can anyone offer any help please? I have a Parking brake fault on a 2005 S type sport automatic Diesel. It came on after I had not used the car for a couple of weeks and in the cold snap. I had a previous parking brake problem before but managed to find something online saying disconnect the two connection plugs to the module then re connect them and it fixed it. But this time it didn't work. i have also taken the battery out and re charged it for 18 hours and tried the above again but it is not working and the fault has now changed. The fault i am getting is flashing between 'Cannot apply parking brake' and 'apply foot and parking brake’. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

THIS WORKS> Removed the Neg off the battery terminal. Put the key in the ignition and turned to start 4 times, then off. Reconnected the Neg back to the battery Started the car Pumped the brakes slow and firm hard 5 times. Stepped on the brakes hard, hold down firm....and pulled up the parking brake. Cleared! Reset the radio, DIC, and used scan tool to clear the parking brake code. GTG.
