Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 1996 chevy cavalier 2.2l its overheating
and the heater works occasionally these problems
started after i replaced the oxygen sensor it my
attemts to fix the over heating I've replaced
thermostat and bled air from system i also had oil
changed and it showed no signs of coolant in it so
i doubt its headgasket. The fan works and radiator
was just replaced a year ago but the bottom hose
on radiator is cold when it overheats top hose is
hot and when car overheats there is no steam
coming from it but the coolant bubbles out of
reservoir and isn't hot.

remove the oil filler cap and see if it's got a milky white emulsion on the under side
Having the same issue, you ever find a fix?
i never did find the exact cause of the overheating i had all the gaskets replaced and still had over heating problems but i did find that my crankshaft seal was broken and once fixed the overheating became more rare i ended up just putting an air vent into the hood and moving my front licences plate to the side to allow more airflow to the engine bay since then I've had no trouble with overheating also an odd note at times if i hit the gas harder it would cool down hope your able to figure out the problem
