Key spins in ignition

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My husband recently changed his ignition switch. When puttling the parts back together the car cranked up after being jumped but all the lights stayed on. When taking the dash back off he tried to test the lights but the key spinned in the ignition "thingy" and the only thing that would cut on was the radio. I told him to check the key lock cyclinder or see if he knocked a pin loose. So far he's been unsuccessful dignosising the problem. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the ignition switch itself -- not the keyed part, but the part that the key switch turns, is bad.
