CEL and flashing cruise control

Yesterdayme and the wife were driving to go get some
dinner, car was running fine. Turned up a hill and when I
gave her some throttle it started sputtering. Only code was
evap gas cap. We made it 20 miles back home and it never
died but evertime I give it heavey throttle it spits and
sputters. Any ideas on the promblem would be much
appriciated.

Initially check for loose or cracked plastic MAF sensor intake plenum at both ends, as well its electrical connector. Disconnected or intermittent MAF sensors won't respond to throttle, as will a significant air leak screwing up the ECM's control of the air-fuel mixture. Check around....
