when service engine light comes on, starts to jerk a little. Any ideas?

Its a 94 v6 5 speed t top. i just got it today and drove it 2 hours home and decided to
go to town to grab some things and out of nowhere service light popped on and car
would jerk at constant speed. would return to normal when i would speed up and
service light went off. but continued to repeat itself a couple times. it has 180k on it
but owner took really good care of it.

If you just got it, call the owner back and see if he had the problem and if so, what does he know the cause is. If it is a lot of money to repair, you need to make a decision. And as suggested above, have the code checked. It may be a plugged fuel filter, injectors needing cleaning or something to do with the smog stuff. Don't sit on it, if you have to return the car, you may have only three days to do so.
