2007 Buick Lucerne makes a LOUD noise...

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I inherited my father's Lucerne and I love it but now there is a loud hum that goes up or down (faster or slower) when the car goes faster or slower. Sounds like an airplane, sort of. Or something that should be shifting but never shifts. The transmission sounds like it's shifting okay but the noise, that is very loud, sounds like it needs to shift.. My husband just put in new front struts so maybe the noise is because of that?? I hope I described it okay! Thanks!

The noise could be wheel bearings or tires going bad. What RPM's does the engine turn at 60 mph? It should be 2,000 or less.
Thank you! I'll check tomorrow to see what the RPM is at when I hit 60. The tires look okay but I'll look closer. Thank you for your reply!
I finally remembered to check the RPMs at 60 MPH, It's right about 1500 RPMs.
And for some reason (possibly from changing the front struts and not getting the tires aligned?) the front tires went from pretty good to pretty bald. AND I don't think the husband went by any specs when replacing the struts, I'm not positive, but I really doubt it. Ugh. I really can't afford to take the car in to be fixed at this point...
An alignment is a lot less than a set of new tires. Struts are just bolt on so don't blame your hubby.
Problem found and fixed! It was the front right wheel hub. Thank goodness!
I got 2008 Buick Lucerne making loud noise when car speeds up noises sound like humming
My 08 Lucerne hits 3,000 rpms just going 40 then shifts and goes back to 2,000 or so
Broken motor mounts.
My 2007 Buick luceren when you cut off there is still a motor running under muffler. What is this? It eventually will kill battery
