2007 Volkswagen Passat.  Engine light is on and engine shakes badly.  I drove for one mile stopped and restarted the engine light did not come back on.  What could be the issue.

It could be a number of issues, you said the check light came on that means there is a fault stored in the ECM (Computer) take the car to a auto parts store such as Auto Zone and they will read it free, post the codes here for help..

The codes are PO300, PO304 for multiple misfire and PO456 for potential Evap leaks. Do I need a VW authorized dealer to fix this or can anyone else fix this also please let me know the ball park figure to get this fixed. Thanks,
