Black smoke is unburnt fuel, for whatever reason, you are running way rich. An DTC might help, you don't have OBDII .....try this page for OBDI troubleshooting, some really good information here: http://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-modifications/1195302-obd1-dtc-codes-troubleshooting.html
