the remotes are sometimes bad on those cars. its either the soldering that holds the battery clip or the buttons are worn out. Both very common but easy to fix. check out keylessfix.com for lots of advice on those gm remotes.

remove negative battery terminal connnection. wait 15 seconds, reattach. Trunk should open if you do not try to start car first. This is easier than jumping the relay

Check the trunk relay on the main fuse panel. Swap it with another one from another circuit just be sure to use one w/ the same number. I assume the button on the car isn't working. If true, fix that first before working on the fob. Chances are 2 things didn't fail at the same time.

I just chased down an identical problem. The wire to the release was broken under the plastic cover where the harness exits the deck lid into the trunk by the left hinge. If you can hear the relay click in the trunk fuse box when you press the release button but nothing happens, then you might want to check that.

After many Googles and tries, found this fix to work. Find the 20A fuse in the fuse block under the hood for the convertible top. It is marked "Conv" among other things and it is located at the top left when viewing the block from the front of vehicle. Remove that fuse. Disconnect the negative battery terminal for two minutes. Re-attach the negative battery terminal while continuing to leave the Conv fuse OUT. Use a key fob to open the trunk. Key fob not working? Here's a hack for that: Open up the key fob and set the rubber membrane aside. It is likely the failed part. Make sure you have a good battery, # Cr2032. On the circuit board, locate the 'spot' that represents the trunk release. Touch that spot with a penny or key to cause a short to activate that button.

I have the same situation Frank. Also when my top is retracted into the trunk, both my fob and door button open the trunk. But not when the top is up. Isn't there a place to insert the key to manually open the trunk?

why did the professors not leave a manuel way to get into the trunk when the "smart" keyless system. Very poor engineering. But it keeps the mechanics at the dealers selling circuits that never were replaced, jusrt mounted so the thing was grounded. Fergus Falls G M are the biggest crooks in my area!

My trunk just stopped responding (again). Tried disconnecting the battery, no go. I have a pizza in there! It did this one other time and magically started working again. Maybe I'll get lucky before the pizza rots.

I tried what Scotchy said to do and no luck. Now when I open my door, the window goes down like normal but it doesn't go back up when the door closes!

Sorry, the door window does work like normal. Still can't open trunk and the pizza really smells that's stuck in there. I would open the top but I didn't have the "tarp" pulled into place in the trunk.

It just magically opened! No idea how or why. Last thing I did was disconnected the 2 big plugs going to the fuse panel under the dash. Put them back on, still didn't work. Out of frustration, I just pushed the remote over and over and "pop" the trunk opened.

double check that your top is fully closed . now try the trunk button it should open. But for those who have window issues remember closing the top always has to do with the Windows because mine always go up when I'm closing my top. So my view is the the if you can't close your windows or got a window replacement, the message is gonna say " top not secure" therefore locking the trunk. I'm not an expert but put two and two together

I just chased down an identical problem. The wire to the release was broken under the plastic cover where the harness exits the deck lid into the trunk by the left hinge. Does anybody know the part number of that wiring harness? I soldered in a jumper to make it work as a temp fix

Can someone help me please? I have a 2005 Pontiac G6 and my trunk won’t open. The key fob, the button on the drivers panel, and the key itself won’t open it. I don’t know what’s wrong with it and when I try the key fob and button I can hear it try to open but nothing and it looks closed but on my radio it’s says “Trunk Ajar” and I found out that means it’s open but it’s not. Please anyone help me
