2004 mini immobilizer issue. My care will not start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
2007 Mini. Recently the anti theft immobilzer kicked in and starting was
intermittent. Now it will not start at all. the shop told me I needed to have a
dealer work on it. I do not live close to a dealer or have thousands to spend.
Can you assist?

I'd listen to the shop. Your other option is a mobile locksmith that can handle anti-theft problems or re-programming, and probably not as well equipped to do it as a dealer.
This issue has something to do with the key and Immobilizer combination, there are some ways to reset it by using your keys, although I haven't found the exact procedure pertaining to Mini Coopers. However, the BMW procedure has been known to work.
