Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello,

I I have a 1993 k2500 4x4 5.7 liters that I bought new.  3 weeks ago driving it, the engine lite came on (never done this before) but it drove just fine.  Next day when I started it , the engine ran really rough to the point of stalling.  But after it warmed up I guess the engine lite came back on, it started to idle normal and kinda run rougher than usual.  Replace fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs and wires and air filter with an oil change and a new muffler.   Still the same.  Any ideas   Thanks Gilles

I don't know what the code is, but a mass air flow (MAF) sensor can cause rough idle, hard starts, loss of acceleration, poor fuel economy, and other issues you'd expect by having an improper air/fuel mixture. I have fixed two vehicles by simply using Chemtool to clean the sensor by spraying the wires and letting dry for 15 minutes. Do not touch the wires with your hands or attempt to clean them with a Q-tip. It is my opinion that you should clean it every 50K miles, and if you have an aftermarket air filter that you spray oil on, you should clean it every 20-30K. Good luck!

turned out to be a vacuum leak (hose that plugs in the MAP) works great now. Thanks everyone
