Distributor timing

Asked by NickR02 Mar 27, 2019 at 07:22 PM about the 1998 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Silverado Extended Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently just purchased a 1998
Silverado 305 5.0 Vortec and it
needed a intake gasket which I had
someone do for me and I had new
spark plugs, plug wires, new
distributor cap, distributor rotor all
put in when this was done ever since
it was finished I’ve had the code
p1345 saying ignition system or
misfire and I’ve had some shops take
a look at it telling me my timing was
off the truck sound great to me I don’t
notice any misfiring, I’m not a
mechanic so I don’t know much
about this stuff but it makes think that
when the distributor was taken out it
was put back in a tooth off but I’m
not sure can any one help

had that p1345 code once, replaced the cam sensor which is in the distributor, so i just put a new distributor in, the new distributor had a clip that held the distributor at 0°. code didnt go away. replaced the new clip for the old style dist clip that allowed you to retard or advance the timing. you need to rev up the motor to a pretty high rpm each time you try a new position with the dist to get the computer to relearn where the new cam sensor position is. tried a few positions with the distrib, reving it up at each new adv position, and aftet a few tries it finally wemt away
