Replace headlight bulbs

I can't see how to get at the headlight bulbs to replace one that is burned out. Surely you don't have to remove the grill to do this?

I don't think you need to remove the grill. There should be clips that are holding the headlight assembly into place. One you find and remove those you should be able to access the bulbs. I would be surprised if removing the entire grill would be necessary.

Yup have to pull the grille to change the head lights .Pian in the butt . What are you insatlling for Bulbs ?? And brand ??? The high beams are crappy on mine and have tried two brands so far . can't seem to find a good light for the 9005 bulbs

Changed bulbs in my 97 many of times, never have I ever get to remove the grill, that's just too much work and not necessary. Open your hood in the engine compartment reach behind the head light the bulb is right there, twist and it comes out unplug old bulb from harness plug new bulb into harness and twist bulb back in. The battery side is a little more dificult, so go ahead and pull the battery out of the truck because it sits right in front of the bulb acess holes.

You can access the dim bulb from there but not the bright bulb You have to remove the grill to get to the bright bulb

I just did this in my 97 C1500. Lift the hood. There are two odd screws sticking up behind the headlights. They are 5mm head screws and look like they're for adjusting the lights but they are not. They hold the assembly with the two lamps into the front of the truck. Remove the two screws and you can pull the lamp assembly out (may need slight encouragement). You then disconnect and unscrew the bulb assemblies from the back. Reverse the steps for new bulbs and reinstallation.
