how to get air pocket from cooling system

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced water pump and t-stat - top rad hose and heater hose into water pump gets hot but the lower rad hose and rad cap are cool to touch

http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Burp-your-cars-cooling-system/ ..that site shows one way, but IMO a little more work than necessary. Top off radiator cold and run with cap off until thermostat opens, and you can watch coolant begin to flow. Have heater on full, top off radiator as needed. Just don't let it get too hot with cap off

Isn't the cap supposed to release air when it reaches a certain amount of pressure?
