humm check your dc volts on the + and- side of the coil when running!!! is it the stouk coils??
I took the alternator and ignition control module off and got them both tested both came back fine
I replaced the coil yesterday because it failed and I replaced with an accel it drove fine for about 2 hours and then shut down again checked the coil and it's burnt out again
Electronic Control Module. They can and will go bad. Easy fix..
The first was an mad coil the second was a junk coil just to see if that was the problem the 3rd was accel... is there any way to check the ecm?
come on people... check and give me your dc volts to the + and - side off the coil at 3500 rpm....!
Dude. The ecm is cheap and worth replacing. Is very easy and im sure u won't regret your choice..let me know...
@Kelly it is burnt out at the moment I can go get another and see but all voltage read fine on the accel yesterday
Just spend the $100.00 on the ECM. It is well worth it. They go bad alot..
U just have to change the computer chip from yours to the new one. You get a core charge about 10 bucks back for your old one..
I will try that and I will get the new coil and check the volts also thanks!
I have the same problem. ever since I did the engine swap, 1,670 miles ago... ive gone through 4 ignition modules. I'm running a 355 small block, tpis mini ram intake, MSD 6 ignition box, stock gm HEI distributer ( 1986 ) MSD coil, ive checked all wires, grounds, searched for anything obvious...NOTHING. the ignition module to my understanding, just controls the duration of spark. this 85-86 year, uses a 7 pin ignition module.... is it possible that when getting high rpms, the MSD box could be frying the modules? it works great. could it be the cpu like the one guy mentioned, since it is all computer controlled? any sugestions ?
