Replacing Engine in a '97 Subaru Outback Impreza

Asked by krugs Nov 02, 2018 at 04:15 PM about the 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback Wagon AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm looking into possible replacing the engine in my old subaru. It's a great
little car and I don't really want to get rid of it, however it's having issues and
needs so much replaced at this point I'm curious if its worth putting in a new
engine so I can get another 150,000 miles out of it. Bought it from a friend that
hit a deer, that's the least of my worries though. I'd just like a relatively cheap
vehicle that runs well.

Keep in mind that replacing the engine will cost more than it is worth. A used engine is cheaper than rebuilding the one you have now. Your choice.
