I have a 2006 fx 35 Infiniti jeep and the vdc off switch has been displayed on the dashboard for some time now. I have also recently noticed that when overtaking, the car jerks like its coughing help

VDC, being on can be the result of several issues... The most common issue that I have experienced has to do with the throttle cable ground, usually tightening the ground on the front of the motor (the ground wires just below the fancy engine cover) causes the issue to go away. How many miles does the car have? if it's over 120K, you may have a stuck or faulty dying throttle body. if you need one I have one for sale (came off of my G35). The other can be due to bad coil packs which will cause a misfire- so with this issue you should have a check engine light along with the VDC illuminated. You could also have a bad ABS sensor (although this would be accompanied with the ABS light).
