My 2006 Toyota Highland is displaying two service codes which the local repair has
identified as code P0031 and code P0061. They said the P0031 is the Oxygen Sensor
Heater Control Circuit Low bank 1 Sensor 1, but they said they need to call me back
on the identification of the code P0061. Can you identify the meaning of the P0061 code? The local shop in Grass Valley, CA, works on Toyota and Subaru vehicles and has a great reputation for quality service. Thank you for your assitance!

Years ago it was easy to take your vehicle to a reliable mechanic and have quality work done, issues resolved. But today the vehicles are half machinery and half computer, and the days of taking your vehicle for anything other than a flat tire to someone who isn't specializing in YOUR vehicle can be less than helpful. If I were a mechanic, and I worked at a Toyota dealership (for instance) I could expect to be regularly updated as to problems that were surfacing with any Toyota vehicle, and the "fix" would be supplied to me. Software would be downloaded into my dealership's diagnostic software and I could proceed with relative certainty to relieve the problem. I know it costs more to go to the dealership for repairs. Still, I do go there. My first requirement when purchasing a vehicle is the reputation of the service department for that dealership. Price has to be secondary, because if my vehicle fails me and I am dead...price won't seem all that important.
