There is a release switch and also a soliniod in the transmission.Start with the switch on the colume under the dash close to the brake pedal,it is the least expensive, pay close attention to how it is positioned before you take it out so that the new one can be set to match it,plus two additional treads. If that doesn't do it,then you need a transmission shop to fix the other and believe it or not,the dealership is the best value for your buck, when it comes to this and they won't charge you a whole bunch of other garbage trying to figure it out,if they are AMCE service qualified Techs, they will already know what they need to do to fix it.Hope that was helpful,it is the corredct answer to your question. There is a remote possability that you brke it off with your feet up under the dash as it is not well protected also.Good luck on your venture.Siple's Service of Texas.

the release switch is most likely activated by the brake pedal / stop light switch. check the connections and be sure to check for a blown fuse for the brake lights or shift interlock seloind before spending any money.

Hello Genny, I am sorry to hear that you're having this issue. If you tried everything and still haven't figured out the problem. I would suggest taking your vehicle into your Chevy dealership to see if they can diagnose what's going on. Vanessa GM Customer Service
You do know your foot has to be on the break before the transmission will release? Perhaps that relay is bad or the connection is not working or adjusted properly.
