Is an engine flush ever recommended?
I have a 2007 VW Jetta Wolfsburg 2.5L with about 65,000 miles on it. I had an oil
change today (was a couple months late getting a change). I have always used
synthetic oil during the changes and have gone to the same oil change spot. They
have previously done work on my car as well (the brakes). Today, the tech checked
my oil with the dipstick and said the color of my oil (brown) suggests that I waited to
long in between changes and he recommended an engine flush. He said without the
flush, I risk the oil becoming sludge which could cause a blown head gasket. So, I got
the flush. I've been googling ever since and have been finding forums where people are
saying the flush could actually cause damage, i.e., even resulting in the engine
seizing. What is your opinion on this? My first concern was that I was being charged
money for something I didn't need, but now, I am more concerned that the flush my
eventually damage my engine.
