I'm trying to fix the heater in my 1966 Ford Mustang, and I read in an answer on here concerning the switches for the heater "Also all 3 of those control levers are hooked to cables. Look under the dash and check to make sure those cables are connected and not broken. Sometimes they stiffen up and break." If one of these (the one reading "heat") were broken, would it stop the heater from starting even though all the other parts are working? And if so, what solution is there to reaffix the switch to its respective cable?

disconnected from its cable, which has broken. What's the fix?
