Sounds pretty good. but have you dye tested and pinpointed the leak? Or just figured it was the rear main seal? or what? there are some oil additives I have heard of that can help a lip seal but nothing helps an aluminum oil pan seal except....... Reseal it. Did you ask ford to check and advise during an oil change? They can tell you things others cannot. Bolt changes, mods, and corrections to the sealing procedure, updated parts, etc. I do not know anybody who would R+I a trans, fix an oil leak there, be right, and not call you to discuss it unless they had inside info on some service bulletin. Seemsw like you need to know that first to be sure you must pull it. How much leakage? and when ? sitting, idling it leaves a puddle like a saucer after what 20 min? or is the oil everywhere ? or what? The dye check during the oil change is the quick diag.

$400.00 is probably a fair price for replacing the rear main seal. If you trust this mechanic I'd say get the repair work done.
