High idling

Asked by William Feb 25, 2017 at 06:41 PM about the 2005 Ford Explorer XLT V6 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 ford explorer and it is idling very high
when stopped. Almost to the point where it wants
to go even with my foot on the brake. I been
reading some forums and they are saying that the
IAC causes this. But according to some mechanics
the 2005's dont have one. Any chance somebody
could point me in the right direction to fix this issue.
Thank you

First thing to do is to get the vehicle scanned for any trouble codes. This will let you know what to look at. I suspect the Throttle Positioning Sensor or wiring harness, or even a vacuum leak. Just get the trouble codes and write them down.

Try cleaning throttle body if really dirty will cause choke not to close all the way sucking in air causing your high idle.

Your half right there firebird, no choke, its a throttle plate but cleaning the throttle body will help.

Throttle plate that was what I was trying to think of but could only come up with choke at the time but I know someone was going to correct me.
