How well does a BMW hold up in extreme colds.

Asked by gweston88 Dec 19, 2015 at 06:06 PM about the 2004 BMW X3 3.0i AWD

Question type: General

I live in Colorado and I'm looking to buy a new car. I know that I need AWD. I am just curious as to if the cars electrical system, and or engine will hold up in a Colorado winter.

BMW will hold up fine, but they are one of the more unreliable brands. Unless you have a deep pocketbook, don't buy a BMW that does not have a warranty. More reliable brands are Toyota, Honda, Acura, Lexus and Lincoln.

Subaru's AWD system is the best but be aware of the oil consumption issue. Some cars are OK but some are not.

Don't listen to them. I have an '04 X3 with 195,000 miles. It is the most stable car I've ever driven in the ice and snow. I had one minor issue with the transmission control unit, but it was an easy fix. I just reset it. Keep up with the maintenance and it'll be a great car for you, especially in this Colorado climate.
