resetting the computer after repairs

This is not really my area of expertise, but wouldn’t you simply clear the trouble codes and then drive and see if anything reappears?

I had to do it FIVE times.

The EVAP system readiness monitor will not set if the gas gauge is above three quarters or below one quarter of a tank. When your gauge is within those parameters, just drive normally for a few days and if the problem is fixed the check engine light will go out. What trouble code did you have? Hope that helps! Jim

Stop resetting the computer. This will only delay the process.

I think there might be some confusion going on here. Every time you clear the check engine light and associated trouble codes the OBD monitors have to reset. If they don't reset the car won't pass smog. If you go online to look for how to reset the monitors it will give you a list of actions to be done for each monitor. It also says the actions required may have to be done five times each. Hope this helps. BTW don't clear trouble codes or you have to start over.

The OBD II drive cycle is a waste of time unless you need to have the readiness monitors reset immediately for some reason. Also, if your gas gauge is above three quarters of a tank or below one quarter of a tank the readiness monitors will not reset no matter what you do! If you have not cleared the computer the diagnostics must run for three times and pass for the check engine light to go out. But the gas gauge must be within the parameters I've stated. What I would suggest is clear the computer, once, and drive normally for a few days. Check the status of the readiness monitors at that point. If all but the EVAP system is set, go to inspection and you will pass as long as the check engine light did not come back on. Under Federal Law you can have one readiness monitor not set on a 2000 thru current model year vehicle and you will pass emissions inspection. That includes all 50 States! Hope that helps! Jim
