Asked by Nathaniel Sep 07, 2024 at 06:04 AM about the 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Once vehicle reaches operating temperature very light
white smoke begins to emit from center console, the
screws inside get burning hot to the touch as does the
plastic that makes up the interior, the floor behind
also becomes warm to the touch and if you feel the
plastic cover of the gear shift you can feel heat there
as well... temperature gage remains normal.

Sounds like you're getting exhaust system heat fed into the body's tunnel area. I suggest you check the shielding under the vehicle just to make sure it's all there, then move onto check the catalyst for proper operation, a restricted catalytic converter can generate a lot of heat. Then check for lean running, over or under advancing of the engine timing.
