Burning Rubber, white smoke only on incline
We just bought a 2008 Subaru Forester, had it checked out at the mechanic
prior to purchase. He said it was in good condition aside from a small power
steering fluid leak. Now, after a couple of weeks, we've started to notice a
slight burning rubber smell. The last two times this has been accompanied
by white smoke from the left side of the engine. We noticed that this only
happens after going uphill, otherwise it drives fine. We took it to a mechanic
who said it's the head gasket. When we asked about the power steering fluid
he said no he didn't notice anything. So now we don't really know what to do.
We don't have the money to get a head gasket replaced if it's not necessary.
Any advice?
