The only way that makes sense to me is if you have been neglectful with oil changes. A cam should last more than 150k and metal-to-metal on what? On the cam? It has to have metal to metal for the lobes to push tappets. OHC, DOHC, I doubt you have a pushrod engine

preaty much what the ford guy said. Only way you will need a cam shaft is if you had a oil issue, constant low oil, Been using the wrong brand of oil or you been leaving oil changes to long betwen services. my car has over 367,000/k on it and i have cleaner then a whistle and excelent shape cams. They are probley jsut trying to get you to put money into your car. They have a regualr replacement scedule they go by for recommended replacements so unless you hear a loud ticking or grinding noise i would not worry about it.

Just for anyone who clicks on this wanting proper information. The 2008 and all 2.0T FSI engines do require periodic changing of the cam follower for the high pressure fuel system. It does ride on the cam and should be replaced periodically. On an engine that is well maintained I would replace is every 20,000 miles.
