Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2008 Chevy Cobalt. I
replaced a head lamp the other day
and must have left the lights on.
Battery drained so I had it recharged.
After the car kicked on all the sudden
the engine light came on. Well today
I went to take it for an oil change and
it would not shift out of first gear. I
also hear a clicking sound near the
shifter when I apply the brake.
Anyone know what it could be? BTW
about 35 codes came up on the
readings. I can supply them
if its helpful. Thanks

Sorry been out of town. Please list the check engine codes. Also did car operate normally prior to the battery going dead?

Did you find out the problem? My daughter was playing in my car yesterday and left the lights on and I had to jump it this morning now my 2008 cobalt is doing the same exact thing won't shift out of first and click in the shifter when I hit the brake
I am also having the same prob...please help if u figured out what was wrong with it....
Ok man mechanic changed out my transmission control module. It's relatively an simplistic part. Costs anywhere between $80 for a refurbished one or around $100- 120 for a new one. Shouldn't take to long to repair so labor should be minimal as well. Hope it's this easy fix for you. Good luck!
2007 Cobalt, all the sudden this morning it's making a clicking noise when the heater is on, and when you try to shift out of park but nada. You can feel the click in the dash and in the wheel but it won't move. Is that the same as what you had wrong Shawn? Did the TCM fix it?
Ground tcm to strut tower. Clean grounds by lower front cooling hose. Behind radiator. The ecu and tcm use same ground. Its behind hose center youll see 2 big wires connected to 1 bolt. Its a 15mm nut. Clean it and put vaseline on it to prevent corroding
Also theres a green wire from tcm to tranny, check connections and continuity. If messed up tcm and ecu wont signal shift solenoids, etc... My brother works at GM dealership
Not an answer but same trouble with a 09after the jump.
