250 class with a towing package. My brother in law has a 1500 Silverado with a tow package and has had transmission trouble and handling issues, not to mention a lack of power. bigger stronger parts are always better when towing.
The real issue is the trailer weight which needs to be within the towing rating of your truck. Towing in sand will greatly increase the towing load so keep that in mind. A 3/4 or 1 ton truck would be my choice.
Wider tires on both the truck and trailer would also be a good idea. Get a 4x4 so you can tow in low range which should make the job much easier.

I need to add more information. I will use 4wd in low and need to stay at 150 or 1500 level as the towing is less than 1 %use. Does anyone know of the late models does any truck tow better in 4wd than the other? Is Ford better than Dodge or Chevy??
