2009 Murano will not start

I have had trouble with my 2009 Nissan Murano not starting since sometime in 2017. When beginning to start the car the brake is rigid and will not depress no matter how hard it is pushed. At first it was believed to be a bad battery. Replaced battery. Still have problems off and on starting the car. Nissan service people had no idea what the problem could be. A friend did some investigating. Said there’s a switch in the brake pedal. So next time the car didn’t start I hit the brake pedal very hard with my foot. It then depressed and I pumped on it while pushing the starter button. The car started right away. Now when I put my foot on the brake pedal to start the car and it’s rigid I know it won’t start until I pump the brake. I’ve been doing this for over a year now. I’ve finally decided to take my car back to Nissan to have it fixed. Hopefully they now also know about the relation of the brake to the starter issue. I’m also hoping this is a recall issue and I don’t have to pay for it as I’m sure it will be expensive. I hope this helps you.

I had the same issue. What I noticed when I got in the car was sometimes the brake light did not come on right away. Black/ dark screen. I believe if you tried to start the car with the dark screen the security system thinks your trying to steal the car and won’t start. When the car wouldn’t start it would always start the next day. security system reset? So now I wait for the light and have started 100 times without issue.

I have a 2010 Murano, and the issue began every now and then, about a couple of times a month, but with persistence/tries, it would start. Until this morning. Thanks to this article, for I was ready to tow the car tomorrow and who knows... I did as indicated. Pumped the brake until it got stiff, and it started right away. Now, with hindsight, I can also tell that the brake pedal sensitivity has varied of late, I thought it might have been due to a break job 5000 miles ago. Regardless, yes, pumping the break did make the difference. All my lights worked, all power, definitely wasn't the battery or alternator nor starter. And so, it is a sensor with the break pedal. My problem with my 2009 nissan morano is intermittant. I press the brake pedal and push start. It turns over but wont start. I hold the start button for like 45 seconds and It trys to start. Keep holding start button so it keeps turning over and it starts but barely. It runs at 300 to 400 rpm and lights on dash flicker and about 30 seconds later dies. Go out several time through out the day and same thing. Go out next day and she fires right up. Thought maybe fuel pump but not sure. I dont think it's the brake switch because it turns over. Am I wrong. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Jim

My girlfriend has a 2009 nissan murano , we had the same problem . Got in it and cranked it up , it was running for about 2 minutes then shut off . After charging the battery and checking simple things like fuses , I tapped the brake sensor , then tried to crank it again , while doing this I hit the reset button and it started running . Because of multiple times trying to crank it , it had excessive gas and skomed a little but it has seemed to smooth out and running well at the moment. I will do a diagnostic test on it to see what problems are occurring. If I find the problem I will post the solution here .
