2008 mercury mountaineer AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

While slowly accelerating and between speeds of 35 to 40
it will vibrate for just a second or two and then will be fine.
It's mainly driving and just slowly accelerating and it is
worse after it warms up.  It doesn't do it at any other
speeds.  Transmission and motor has normal power and
changes gears very fast and effortlessly.   Is this possibly
something to do with the AWD system?  I have no clue
really how AWD system work.  I know they engage the
driveshafts but I don't know how or when AWD systems
engage or disengage or if they ever disengage.

Still trying to track down the cause of mine, 97 expedition xlt awd 5.4l....all mounts good, cv joints, driveshaft, suspension (aside from minor misalignment which I've been dialing in as I get each part) wheel bearings, ball joints and bushings are good. Just recently noticed that when in 4wd in air the drive tire (in reverse at idle speed) is stop and go, haven't had a chance to check out the caliper on that wheel
