Cost to replace water pump, valve cover gasket, spark plugs and 2 coil packs replaced on my 2008 328i. Is that about normal for 76k miles? Total cost was about $2,300 parts/labor. Ouch!

Were you having any problems with car like overheating, etc. Failing water pump usually related to overheating. Same with valve cover gasket -- was it dripping oil or just shaping a bit? Why did SA tell you plugs and coils needed to be replaced? Mileage? Do you know last time (if any) that they were replaced? Like others, you are experiencing the lovely ownership experience for repairs and maitenanance. OEM parts are $$$ but come with two year warranty; and dealer service facilities are notorious for:absurdly high labor rates and mark up on already high parts prices. Suggestion: find a good Indy shop where labor may be 40% less; when someone says "xyz" needs to be replaced, ask shop to keep old parts for you to examine. Keeps them more on the honest side. My M5 was at dealer for recall work, and when done, SA called me and said "great news, the recall work has been completed" but then proceeded to,list 5 other things that needed to be fixed. Two of five related to P/S: said return line was leaking (about $300) and reservoir had leak around top. After quizzing him (and he was getting testy with me), I declined all the work. Took car to my Indy mechanic, who replaced hose at N/C since he replaced it 18 months ago. As for reservoir leak, he said the $1.00 gasket around collar was worn out, no other leaks. Replaced for me for free. BMW wanted over $600 same work!
